| Dear International Association of Schools of Jazz Members,
I write to you all with gratitude for the love, care, and energy that you each invest in this wonderful organization. At this time, my gratitude is compounded by the trust that the membership and the board of directors has placed in me, you all recently elected me to chair the board of directors. It is an honor to serve in this capacity. In this position, I will endeavor to reinforce the longstanding commitment of the IASJ to create a space for students, teachers, and administrators in jazz education to share their ideas, experiences, and musicianship with one another in a spirit of collaboration and camaraderie.
Great thanks go out to the outgoing chair, Jari Perkiömäki, whose leadership on the board and as its chair for more than a decade kept the organization on a steady and successful course. Additional thanks to Wouter Turkenburg, who has served the IASJ as Executive Director for its entire existence, and who will continue to serve the organization leading out the IASJ Service Bureau.
And if all of that isn’t enough, congratulations and thanks also go to the new IASJ Executive Director, Ed Partyka. Ed’s insights into the jazz education scene, along with his artistic and organizational skills, are sure to bring the organization to new heights.
Finally, thank you to our Artistic Director, David Liebman for his support and colossal musicianship.
The board has been talking through some ideas around expanding the profile of the IASJ in the jazz community, and growing our membership. More on this in future newsletters.
All the best to all of you, Keller Coker IASJ Chairman‍ |
