David LiebmanDavid Liebman is considered a renaissance man in contemporary music with a career stretching nearly fifty years. He has played with masters including Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, McCoy Tyner and others; lead his own groups; authored books and instructional DVDs which are acknowledged as classics in the jazz field; recorded as a leader in styles ranging from classical to rock to free jazz. He has performed on over five hundred recordings with more than two hundred as a leader/co-leader featuring several hundred original compositions. (

At NYU Jazz, Lieb will expose students to the principles enumerated in his landmark book “A Chromatic Approach to Jazz Harmony and Melody.” As well he will be offering lectures and master classes on a variety of subjects as part of NYU’s new Artist Diploma in Jazz Performance for Post-Masters students. Lieb’s contribution will be an important part of this pioneering program which will also include internationally recognized members of the NYU jazz faculty.

Royal Conservatory frontRoyal Conservatory, The Hague, The Nederlands, looks for a new head of jazz studies

The Royal Conservatory in The Hague, The Netherlands, is looking for a new head of jazz studies. Applications can be send in till mid February 2019.

Wouter Turkenburg, the current head of jazz studies, retires in June 2019 after leading the jazzdepartment for over 33 years. He will continue his position as Executive Director of the IASJ. He is also writing a book:  '40 years of jazz education at the Royal Conservatory: how jazz changed jazz education and how jazz education changed jazz'.

The IASJ is a long standing member of the IMC, the International Music Coucil, affiliated with UNESCO.

The IASJ, founded in 1989, brought together over 3000 jazz students, teachers and directors from all over the world.
