The jazz department of the Royal Conservatory benefits from being under the same roof and collaborating strongly and positively with other internationally highly esteemed department such as the department for classical music, baroque music, composition, electronic music, sound engineering, opera, theater and fine arts. The jazz tradition is taken as the main source for personal development. The vibrant The Hague down town jazz scene offers endless opportunities for jamming, gigging, and performing, more than any other city in The Netherlands.

The IASJ is a long standing member of the IMC, the International Music Coucil, affiliated with UNESCO.

The IASJ, founded in 1989, brought together over 3000 jazz students, teachers and directors from all over the world.
